Introduction

Judaism is a religion that was the national religion of the Israelites, a small group of people that emerged in the Middle East, in approximately 1900 B.C.E. i.e. approximately 3919 years ago. Over the centuries it has evolved from being the religion of a few tribes in the Middle East, to becoming the national religion of the ancient kingdom of Israel, to becoming a universal religion today- a religion whose adherents originate and live in all corners of the earth.

Judaism has a great deal to offer those who seek a meaningful life. This is so because of Judaism’s system of beliefs and practices, because of it considers both law and love to be equally important, because it gave and continues to give emotional sustenance to its adherents, because it is consistently life-affirming, because it always emphasizes personal responsibility and independent moral agency, because it expects great things out of us and yet recognizes our human frailties, and because it believes in the power of repentance and change
